England’s long serving coach and Assistant Manager Gary Thomas will no longer be involved with the team, it has been announced.

England Team Director Paul Darke and fellow license holder Paolo Vernazza informed Senior UKMA Executives last week of their intention to remove Thomas – a veteran of three EMF Euro tournaments – and Mr. Darke has informed the Manchester based coach of the decision over the weekend.

Speaking of the move today, Darke said: “I have spoken to Gary earlier this week on the phone, he was naturally upset at the decision by I have explained to him it is a Minifootball decision and nothing personal.

“We had a planning meeting with Scott a couple of weeks ago and he expressed his wish to have the opportunity to bring his own assistant in. Both Scott and Rob [Ursell - set pieces coach] will continue to play next year and it was felt that to move the England team forward and to push into the top four of Europe we need to support Scott’s wish to source someone who he feels he and Rob can use when one or both are playing.”

The Team Director went on to praise the contribution of Gary Thomas last eight of the EMF Euro and inflicted a first ever defeat on Romania and added: "Everyone would like to thank Gaz for his professionalism, input and commitment over the last three tournaments and wish him all the best for the future."

An announcement on a replacement will be made in due course.
